Inside the Ångström Machine
Some machines are so advanced they almost feel unreal.
In this session, Pieter Vanelderen from imec takes us behind the scenes of ASML’s High NA EUV machine, installed in imec’s cleanroom in Leuven. Built to print the tiny structures needed for the next generations of chips, this machine pushes semiconductor technology into the ångström era.
Future healthcare will depend on more powerful computing, smarter sensors, better diagnostics, advanced imaging, lab-on-chip systems, wearables and medical devices that can process more information in smaller, faster and more efficient ways. High NA EUV is part of the infrastructure that can help make that future possible.
Pieter will explain what the machine does, why operating it is so complex, and how a piece of almost superhuman engineering in Leuven makes technology itself even better.
