Inside Vesalius’ Digital Anatomy
In this special session, Prof. Diethard Monbaliu brings the spirit of the new Vesalius Museum to FTI Leuven 2026. Opening shortly after the festival, the Vesalius Museum will connect Leuven’s medical heritage with the innovations shaping healthcare today and tomorrow.
Through a live demonstration on an interactive digital dissection table, Diethard takes us inside the world of digital anatomy. The session connects the legacy of Andreas Vesalius, one of the defining figures in the history of anatomy, with the tools now used to explore, teach and understand the human body in new ways.
This is not a preview of the new museum. It is a reflection on how medicine keeps evolving: from anatomical dissection to digital exploration, from historical knowledge to future care, from looking at the body to understanding how to treat it better.
