Professor of Medical Ethics | Ghent UniversityHealthcare is slowly shifting from treating disease to managing health earlier.
In this session, Peter Peumans, Senior Vice President Life Science Technologies at imec, and Heidi Mertes, professor of Medical Ethics at Ghent University, explore how better sensors, biological data, wearables and AI could change the future of healthcare and life sciences, and what that change asks of us.
The promise is clear: detect risks earlier, develop better medicines, support better decisions and help people stay healthy for longer. But that future depends on a deeper layer of technology. To make AI useful in life sciences, we need better ways to measure biology itself: cells, proteins, signals and patterns that are still largely invisible today.
Peter will explain how imec contributes to that shift through advanced sensing, chip technology and life sciences tools. At the same time, Heidi will open the human questions behind this evolution. How do we make sure health technology remains useful for patients and society?
